Week 2: Concept Proposal

My Wix website will be curated in a way that my reader can gather a variety of information on how investigative journalism has impacted the world of crime. In order for this website to effectively present and share information with my audience I will need to use several different types of content. I think as impactful as the written word is, I also believe that in regards to this topic, creating and using charts and graphs will also help share data. A combination of research-based writing and charts is the best way to present information on this topic. My goal for the ‘vibe’ of the website is for it to remain as light-hearted as possible, true crime is such a heavy topic but because I am not delving into the details of the crimes, I don’t want it to be dark and mysterious. I want it to feel more inviting.

I have chosen to use Wix mainly for its simplicity in design and creation. I want the reader to get as much information as possible, in the easiest way possible. WordPress has more customization options and abilities, whereas Wix keeps things simple. I think because my topic can get complicated and overwhelming rather easily, I want to create a website that isn’t overwhelming and that’s easy to navigate.

My reason for choosing Wix also covers an area of accessibility. Creating an easy-to-use website is important to me because the easier it is to navigate, the larger my audience becomes. A standard website is easy for people of all ages to use, and that is exactly what I want for my website as well. I will also ensure that all of the fonts and colors that I use are easy to see and read. Again, this allows for a larger, more diverse audience.

My chosen topic has slightly controversial concepts involved, as does everything relating to the justice system. It’s crucial that I maintain an unbiased point of view. This will come from ensuring that I only use facts, because the second I allow my own opinions to be included in my website it allows for potential bias. My main focus for this website is to show the beneficial impacts that investigative journalism has on crime, but I think it could also be beneficial to show one or two times where investigative journalism isn't beneficial. I think showing both sides eliminates any potential bias as well.
