The Hillsborough County deputies have arrested a suspect in connection with the theft from a Riverview Petco on September 29, 2024.

Our team of investigators determined that Amy Burns, a 33-year-old woman from Riverview, walked into the Petco store around 5:45 p.m. on Thursday September 19, 2024. After speaking with an employee about the available cat food brands, she approached the area where the cats available to adopt are kept.

A few minutes later, Burns was seen attempting to conceal the white kitten in her purse and heading for the door. She walked to her vehicle and sped off before the Petco employees could catch up with her.

“I am proud that our investigators were able to track down this suspect in such a timely manner. As a team we were able to ensure that the kitten was unharmed and that the suspect will be held accountable for her careless actions.” said Sheriff Chad Chronister.

Amy Burns was arrested at approximately 9:37 a.m. at her apartment on Friday, September 20, 2024, with no incident. She is facing charges of Theft of a Business and Stealing a Domesticated Cat.
